




In 1870 Lorenzo Dow Baker started the bananan trade in jamaica and successively he promoted Port Antonio like one of the most amazing destination for the wealthy American traveller.


The island was soon to be glamourized by Holliwood, as it became the model of paradise for the silver screen in the 1940’s and 50’s. This was endorsed by the arrival of world-famous movie star Errol Flynn who arrived in Port Antonio in 1946 when his yacht “Zacca” washed ashore in bad weather.
“More Beautiful than any woman I ever seen!”. So he described the island when he arrived in Port Antonio.
In the 50’s Flynn bought the Titchfield Hotel and also Navy Island offshore where it is rumored that he threw wild parties.

In 1897 Mr.Baker built the five star, 400 room Titchfield Hotel, that was considered one of the most commodious hotel in the world.
Members of Royal families, movie stars, great musicians and well known politicians that have visited Port Antonio are countless.
